Abstract
Government of Karnataka (GoK) had initiated a novel mission mode project called "Bhoochetana" i.e. "Reviving Soils", which was formally launched by the then Hon'ble Chief Minister of Karnataka in Haveri district on 23 May 2009. The project was implemented in phases by the Dept. of Agriculture along with other consortium partners viz. ICRISAT, SAUs and Watershed Development Dept., covering all the 30 districts of the State over a period of 4 years from 2009 - 10 to 2012 - 13 and later continued for second phase from 2013 - 14 to 2017 - 18. The main objective of the programme was to increase the crop productivity in dry land/rain fed areas of 30 districts of the State, by adopting improved technology, conduct soil tests, prepare soil test maps based on GIS in all districts, capacity building through the involvement of ICRISAT and KVK/SAU.
