Abstract

The article focuses on the use of biotechnology in plant genetics which improves productivity of crops including pigeonpea, chickpea, and groundnut. It discusses socio-economic and environmental benefits of plant biotechnology for poor farmers. It informs about the Sixth Asian Biotechnology and Development Conference which is organized by the Research and Information System (RIS) the Department of Biotechnology and Department of Science and Technology of the Government of India.
