Abstract
The 32-entry 1983 International Pearl Millet Ergot Nursery(IPMEN) seventh in the series, was evaluated at 10 locations in India, and 1 each in Nigeria and Niger. Although no entry remained ergot free at all locations, 18 entries had across-locations mean severities of not more than 2% and the maximum severity of not more than 5% at any one location. The remaining 11 entries had across-locations mean severities of 2 to 15% compared with 33, 54 and 65% severities on local resistant, local susceptible and the trial check (BJ 104), respectively. Many entries which were resistant to ergot in India were also resistant at Samaru for the second successive year. Eight entries (ICMPE 34-1-10 and ICMPES 16, -23, -24, -26, -28, -31 and -32), besides showing high resistance to ergot were also resistant to smut and downy mildew across locations in India and West Africa.
