Abstract

Seeds play a vital role in the production of food. The need to Increase food production rapidly has necessitated the ICRISAT scientists to e~change of germ plasm frequently with many countries for the purpose of collection, breeding and distribution. The quantity of seed exported since the inception of ICRISAT (Table 1) shows the magnitude of effort made in this direction. Since 1974, 4,20,040 seed samples and other plant materials have been exported to scientists all over the world, who are also interested in the development programmes of ICRISAT's five mandate crops.
