Abstract
Field studies were carried out in India during the kharif (hot) season of 1975 on the biology of Cyrtozemia cognata Mshl., one of the most serious pests of moong (Vigna radiata). The life-cycle of the pest was completed in 20-25 days, with 3-4 annual generations from July to October. Eggs were laid singly or in batches of 2-36 on the upper tip of the leaf, and the incubation period lasted 2-3 days. The larval stage lasted 10-15 days with 4 instars. On completion of development, larvae pupated in the soil at a depth of 5-6 cm. The pupal period lasted 4-5 days.
