Abstract
This high yielding, elite breeding line originated from a single plant selection made at Patancheru in the F2 of the cross USA20 × TMV10. It belongs to the Virginia botanical group and produces mainly 2-seeded pods with a shelling turnover of 68-74% and a 100-seed weight of 61-64 g. The seeds are red and uniform in size and shape, and blanch easily, making them suitable for the red skin and confectionery trades. ICGV-SM83708 was released 1990 as CG7 in Malawi, where yields averaged 1.96-3.35 t/ha depending on locality, exceeding the local cultivars by 11-35%. It was also released in Zambia in 1991 as MGV4.
