Groundnut is grown in 22.2 million ha in more than 100 countries in the world with a total production of 34.5 million t and an average productivity of 1.55 t ha-1(FAO, 2006). Asia accounts for 55.2% of the global area and 66.7% of the global production of the crop compared to 40.3% of the area and 25.6% of the production in Africa.
