Abstract
Groundnut (Arachis hypogaea 1.) is the 6th most important oilseed crop and the 13 th most important food crop in the world. It is grown in an area of 26.4 million ha with a total production of 37.1 million metric tones and an average productivity of 1.4 metric tones ha-'. Developing countries account for 96%of the global area and 92% of the global production of the crop. Groundnut is grown under both high input and subsistence farming conditions. High yields are realized under high input irrigated condition, where diseases and pets are controlled. Yields in excess of 4 t ha-' are not uncommon under such conditions.............
