Abstract
ICGV87187 (ICGS37), released in 1990 for cultivation in the summer groundnut (Arachis hypogaea) zone II in India (Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra), was derived from a single-plant selection made in a natural hybrid population from a cross between the early maturing, Virginia-type Indian variety Robut 33-1 (Kadiri 3) and an unknown parent. ICGV87187 is a Spanish-type variety with a decumbent 2 to decumbent 3 growth habit, matures in 110-120 days and has a shelling turnover of 70%. It is photoperiod insensitive. Mean pod yield of ICGV87187 in zone II during 1980-87 ranged from 2.14 to 4.34 t/ha, an average increase of 41.5% over the control variety J11. ICGV87187 outyielded J11 by 62% in limited on-farm adaptive trials in Gujarat. ICGV87187 has a potential pod yield of 3-4 t/ha under good management conditions. Pods of ICGV87187 are medium-sized, attractive and contain 1-2 seeds; seeds are tan in colour with a 100-seed weight of 53 g and contain 48% oil and 23% protein. The oleic : linoleic acid ratio is 1.04, similar to that of J11.
