Abstract

Rural livelihoods are diverse and many. Cultivating crops to meet the food needs, fodder needs of the cattle (in the mixed farming systems) and to generate income is the most important form of enterprise in India, where more than 65% of the population depend on agriculture for their livelihoods (Central Research Institute for Dryland agriculture [CRIDAJ 1997).
