    Abstract

    Pennisetum americanum hybrid variety ICMH423 is produced by pollinating male-sterile ICMA841 with pollen from ICMP423. ICHM423 is of medium height (0.1-2.2 m), medium maturity (75-90 days) and reaches 50% flowering in about 48 days. It is highly resistant to downy mildew [Sclerospora graminicola] and in field trials in 1983-86 it yielded 2.02-2.13 t grain/ha, which was 1% more than the control, MBH110, and 5.2-6.8 t fodder/ha, which was 20% better than MBH110.
