Abstract

This paper reports the changes in seed quality during ripening and maturation in diverse germplasm (16 Oryza sativa cultivars and 1 O. glaberrima cultivar) grown during the dry season of 1992-93. The results are presented of investigations undertaken to determine whether seeds produced in the dry season at Los Baños, Philippines provide acceptable seed quality, and whether differences in seed storage longevity and development of potential longevity occur among contrasting genotypes. Studies were also undertaken to determine whether differences in morphological characteristics and isoenzyme profiles correlated with any differences in inherent longevity of the germplasm
