Abstract
ICSV145 (= SAR1, SPV694) is a pure line variety selected from a cross between IS18475(555), with resistance to Striga asiatica, and high-yielding IS18468(168) (= CSV5); it was subjected to infestation by S. asiatica during the F2 to F6 and subsequently from 1982 to 1986. ICSV145 takes 63-65 days from germination to 50% flowering and 105-110 days to mature. The plants are 1.8-2.4 m high and remain erect; the panicle is semicompact and well exserted, while the grains are round, light cream coloured and medium sized (100 grain weight, 2.7 g), with ~10% protein and 3.25% lysine (per 100 g of protein). ICSV145 has yielded 2900 kg/ha under conditions of Striga infestation and 3100 kg/ha when Striga was absent; it has also yielded up to 12.2 t fodder/ha.
