Abstract
The Pennisetum americanum lines ICMA2 and ICMB2 were developed from crosses between Tift 23DA, Tift 23DB and the Ghanaian introduction PI185642, with selection for resistance to Sclerospora graminicola. In preliminary yield trials in Haryana, India, ICMA2 hybrids yielded more than 5141A hybrids and the standard, BJ140. ICMA2 hybrids flowered 5 days earlier and were 40 cm shorter than MBH110. ICMA2 carries the d2 dwarfing gene, allowing it to be used to produce hybrids with a wide range of heights. Both lines flower early (42 days) and tiller profusely. The grain is bold, globular and light gray; it has a 1000-grain weight of 12 g.
