    Many of the wild relatives of Arachis hypogaea are potentially useful in groundnut improvement, but there arc a number of problems to be overcome in transferring genes to ttLe cultivated groundnut. Studies on karyom types, meiosis in hybrids, seed proieip electrophoresis, polyploidisation and incompatibility contribute to the full knowledge of the genus, tho genome8 present and the relationships between species that will be useful to breeder8 and cyto~eneticistsi n utilizing wild epecies characters,
