Abstract

F. semitectum var. majus was isolated from pearl millet (Pennisetum americanum) infected by C. fusiformis. F. semitectum var. majus was applied to infected P. americanum at various stages of ergot development. The results were 83-98% ovary colonization, 14-52% reduced sclerotia formation, 24-43% sclerotia colonization and 46-48% sclerotia disintegration compared with the control. It is suggested that F. semitectum var. majus could be used as a biological control agent of ergot in P. americanum
