Abstract

Smart farming technologies are revolutionizing wheat production, enhancing sustainability by optimizing resource use and minimizing environmental impacts. This chapter explores the integration of precision agriculture, Internet of things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), remote sensing, and advanced biotechnology in wheat intensification. These technologies enable data-driven decision-making to maximize yield while reducing input waste. Precision agriculture techniques, like GPS-based mapping and variable rate technology, allow precise input applications tailored to crop needs, thus boosting productivity. Remote sensing and UAVs provide timely monitoring of crop health, enabling early detection of diseases and nutrient deficiencies. Smart irrigation systems powered by IoT sensors and real-time data analytics, address water scarcity by conserving water while ensuring optimal soil moisture. Advanced machine learning algorithms analyze imagery and environmental data, supporting predictive models that help anticipate yield outcomes, disease outbreaks, and optimal resource allocation. The adoption of these technologies in wheat farming offers sustainable solutions to climate and resource challenges, ensuring high productivity with minimized ecological impact. Through smart farming, wheat intensification is achieved in a way that aligns with sustainable agricultural practices, supporting food security while protecting natural resources.
