Beta-glucosidase, a key enzyme in cellulose degradation and carbon cycling, serves as an important biochemical indicator of soil quality and organic matter turnover by catalyzing the hydrolysis of beta-glucosides into glucose. Measuring beta-glucosidase activity provides insights into carbon turnover and the soil’s capacity to sustain biological processes essential for ecosystem functioning. This enzyme-based assessment is widely used to evaluate soil health and organic matter dynamics.
