Abstract

Soil carbohydrates, constituting 5–25% of soil organic matter, are key indicators of substrate quality and SOM dynamics, typically assessed through acid hydrolysis and chromatography despite extraction challenges due to humic associations. Understanding soil carbohydrate pools provides insights into labile carbon fractions and their contribution to soil health and sustainability.
