Abstract
The genesis and the objectives of the IFAD-NARS-ICRISAT project are presented. The workshop served as a forum to share experiences and information on strategies used to enhance on-farm productivity in West Africa. Presentations were made by a wide array of representatives: national and international research institutes, research networks, nongovernmental organizations, and the private sector. A synthesis of panel discussions is presented on participatory on-farm approaches to increase agricultural production and adoption of improved technologies; sustainable on-farm seed production; sorghum and millet processing; and socioeconomic aspects. An overview of the project and work-plans for each of the five member countries are given.
