    Breeding work on groundnut s started in mid- 1976 after the acceptance of the detailed research proposal (Gibbons 1976) by the Governing Board of ICRISAT. The mai n objective of the program i s to produce high yielding breeding lines or populations with resistance to the main factors presently limiting production
