bibo:abstract "Indian agriculture plays a major role in the country’s\r\neconomy with 60% of India’s population depending on\r\nagriculture sector. The central concern of Indian agriculture is\r\nlow productivity, evident in modest average crop yields. India\r\nmay need at least 20 million tons of additional food every year\r\nto meet the minimum food and nutritional demands of the\r\ngrowing population which is expected to be 1.7 billion by\r\n2050. Thus the greatest challenge for Indian agriculture is to\r\nproduce more with minimal input resources without causing\r\nimbalance to environment and in a sustainable manner. One of\r\nthe approaches to face the challenge is production of crops\r\nwith increased input resource use efficiency by managing\r\nimpediments such as weeds, which are adaptable to all\r\nadverse environments and compete with the crops for\r\nutilization of land, labor, light, nutrients and water resources\r\n(Yaduraju and Rao 2013). In this presentation, an effort is\r\nmade to give an overall picture of resources used in Indian\r\nagriculture, extent of competition by weeds for resources with\r\ncrops and extent of losses caused by weeds and appropriate\r\nweed management strategies for enhancing input resources\r\nuse efficiency of crops for attaining increased crop\r\nproductivity and production to meet the present and future\r\ndemands of Indian population."^^xsd:string;
