"In an effort to simultaneously transfer and map the\r\ngenomic regions governing resistance to late leaf spot\r\n(LLS) and rust in peanut, two susceptible varieties\r\n(lCGS 76 and OH 86) were crossed to two resistant\r\nsynthetic tetraploids; an amphidiploid, ISATGR 278-\r\n18 (Arachis duranensis x Arachis batizocoi) and\r\nan autotetraploid, ISATGR 5B (Arachis magna x\r\nArachis batizocoi). Two cycles of backcrossing with\r\nthe recurrent parents resulted in the development of a\r\nlarge number of introgression lines (ILs). They (BCl6\r\nand BCl,) were evaluated during the rainy season of\r\n2013 and 2014. ILs differed significantly for LLS and\r\nrust resistance, and productivity traits. Twenty seven\r\nintrogression lines superior over lCGS 76, and three\r\nILs superior over OH 86 for pod yield were selected\r\nfrom respective crosses. Many of them were highly\r\nresistant to both LLS and rust. Majority of them carried\r\nresistant allele at marker loci linked to LLS and rust.\r\nA few ILs also combined high test weight, shelling\r\npercentage and sound mature kernel percentage. Of\r\nthese introgression lines, eleven were also superior\r\nover GPBO 4, a national check variety.
