Millsp.) is an important grain legume crop of rainfed agriculture in the tropical and sub-tropical areas. In India, the area and production of this crop is fluctuating but its mean productivity has been stagnant between 600-750 kg ha-1 since from four decades which is regarded as low by all standards. Due to the low productivity of this crop, the country faces serious pulse crises which forced country to be depending on import of pulses. The discovery of cytoplasmic genetics male-sterility (CGMS) system in pigeonpea provides an opportunity of achieving the long-cherished goal of breaking the yield barrier in this crop. In CGMS-based hybrid technology, instability of male sterility and fertility restoration are the prime cause behind instable yield performance of hybrids over the wide range of environments which makes better hybrids adaptive to only a specific location.  Therefore the present study was carried out to investigate stability of male sterility in nine CMS lines under three dates of sowing and fertility restoration in 10 CMS based pigeonpea hybrids under three different locations. Significant variability existed for pollen fertility among hybrids and sterility in CMS lines. All the hybrids except ICPH 3494 and ICPH 3491 exhibited high (&gt;80 %) pollen fertility across the locations. Hybrids ICPH 2671, ICPH 2740 and ICPH 3933 had 100 % male fertile plants across the locations. All the CMS lines had complete male sterile plants across the dates of sowing. CMS lines BRG1 A, Hy3C A, BRG3 A and TTB7 A exhibited 100 % pollen sterility in different dates of sowing. The pooled analysis revealed significant genotype × environmental interaction for pollen fertility and sterility. The GGE biplot of hybrids showed that hybrids ICPH 2671, 2740, 3933 and 3461 were stable for fertility restoration. With an exception of ICPA 2047 and ICPA 2051, all the CMS lines were highly stable with high mean performance and least vector length from AEA.
