%X Cereals comprise a number of crops including rice, wheat, maize, barley, rye and sorghum. In the form of starch and proteins, the cereal grains provide nearly 60 % of the calories consumed globally as food and fodder. There is a growing challenge to meet the global demand of food security for a human population of 9 billion expected by the year 2050.
