Of 43 correlation coefficients between the traits, 11 were >0.20 and 5 were <-0.20, indicating that any limitations on recombination for these traits were weak. First principal component eigenvectors (FEs), based on 9 traits, were homogeneous in sign and accounted for 35-49% of total variance across generations within crosses, indicating a relatively wide "recombination spindle" (a measure of the distribution of trait combinations in the progenies as a proportion of possible combinations). FEs within BCs were not homogeneous in sign and accounted for only 22-32% of variation. Recombination spindle width depended more on differences in gene frequencies over BCs than on linkage or pleiotropy within BCs. It is concluded that breeders should be able to obtain the required associations of traits from wild and cultivated sorghum with little or no hindrance due to reduced recombination.</mods:abstract><mods:classification authority="lcc">Sorghum</mods:classification><mods:originInfo><mods:dateIssued encoding="iso8061">1985</mods:dateIssued></mods:originInfo><mods:originInfo><mods:publisher>Verlag Paul Parey</mods:publisher></mods:originInfo><mods:genre>Article</mods:genre></mets:xmlData></mets:mdWrap></mets:dmdSec><mets:amdSec ID="TMD_eprint_8258"><mets:rightsMD ID="rights_eprint_8258_mods"><mets:mdWrap MDTYPE="MODS"><mets:xmlData><mods:useAndReproduction>
