During 1976-83, severity of infection on the selected accessions ranged from {\ensuremath{<}}1 to 7\% compared with 42 to 69\% on the susceptible standard NHB3. The accessions also showed 14-18\% severity of infection by Puccinia penniseti [P. substriata var. penicillariae ] at Patancheru and Bharanisagar (India) during 1982-83, compared to 33\% for the susceptible standard. At Patancheru the accessions were 1.5-2 m tall, produced 2-4 tillers, flowered 50-60 days after sowing and had panicles 22-40 cm long; 1000-seed weight ranged from 6.1 to 7.8 g} }
