N application has increased root dry matter and length. When there was shortage of rainfall, the crop roots extended in the deeper layers of the soil. Root and shoot N content also increased with the application of N. In the early stages of growth, it was found that most of the N in the plant was present in the leaves and stems but as the plant matured this N would shift towards the seeds but around 6-10% of the N in the plant would also be present in the roots. date: 1999 date_type: published publication: Crop Research (Hisar) volume: 17 number: 1 publisher: The Gaurav Society of Agricultural Research Information Centre (GSARIC) pagerange: 22-27 refereed: TRUE issn: 0970-4884 related_url_url: http://scholar.google.co.in/scholar?as_q=The+root+system+and+N+uptake+of+a+safflower+crop+%28Carthamus+tinctorius+L.%29&as_epq=&as_oq=&as_eq=&as_occt=title&as_sauthors=&as_publication=&as_ylo=&as_yhi=&btnG=&hl=en&as_sdt=0%2C5 related_url_type: pub citation: Abdurahman, M D and Seeling, B and Rego, T J and Reddy, B B (1999) The root system and N uptake of a safflower crop (Carthamus tinctorius L.).
