Fueled by trends such as increased urbanization, growing populations, and income growth in the urban areas, it is clear that this demand will only continue to grow (Delgado et al., 1999). Although decision makers in agriculture have traditionally focused on crop production, the growing demand for livestock products makes a good case for improving the livestock sector. Gains made here will ultimately benefit the many small-scale farmers who collectively own more than 80% of the livestock in southern Africa (SADC RISDP, 2006). date: 2013 date_type: published publisher: International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics place_of_pub: Patancheru, Andhra Pradesh, India pages: 4 institution: International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics department: RP – Markets, Institutions and Policies related_url_url: http://scholar.google.co.in/scholar?hl=en&q=%22National+and+Regional+Livestock+Markets%3A+Opportunities+for+Growth+in+SADC%22&btnG= related_url_type: pub citation: Homann-Kee Tui, S and Van Rooyen, A F and Minde, I (2013) National and Regional Livestock Markets: Opportunities for Growth in SADC.
