"Dokur village, located in Mahbubnagar district of\r\nAndhra Pradesh was chosen for Village-Level Studies\r\n(VLS) initiated in 1975 by the Economics Program of the\r\nInternational Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid\r\nTropics (ICRISAT), Patancheru, Hyderabad. The present\r\nMahbubnagar district is also known as Palamooru,\r\nlocated in the Telangana Region of Andhra Pradesh.\r\nDokur village (16° 36’ N and 78° 50’ E) is situated in\r\nDevarkadra mandal in Mahbubnagar District (16° 73’\r\nN and 77° 98’ E). Dokur’s original name was “Dakur”\r\nderived from the Indo-Persian Urdu word “daku,”\r\nmeaning “gang of armed dacoits”. It is believed that\r\ndacoits used to take shelter in Dakur due to its thick\r\nvegetation. Eventually, the name Dakur became\r\ncorrupted to Dokur. Dokur is about 130 km from\r\nHyderabad. To reach Dokur from Hyderabad, one needs\r\nto travel to Mahbubnagar district headquarters and then\r\nto Deverkadra mandal on the surfaced Hyderabad-\r\nRaichur road, and then travel a further distance of seven\r\nkilometers south on a metal road. Autorickshaws and\r\nRoad Transport Corporation buses are the main means\r\nof transportation from Devarkadra to Dokur."^^ . "2011" . . .
