The health problems arising from air pollution have become apparent which result in welfare losses in society such as increased workdays lost and high health cost. This study shows the mitigating cost and workdays lost as a result air pollution related illness and the factors influencing these economic parameters (mitigating cost and workdays lost). Our results demonstrate the economic impact of air pollution which will provide information that could be used to know the significance of air quality, to value the benefits of air pollution control programs, social benefits (in terms of government subsidising clean energy source), policies or strategies to ensure a safe and acceptable air standard to minimise health effects. date: 2013 date_type: published publication: African Journal of Environmental Science and Technology volume: 7 number: 7 publisher: Academic Journals pagerange: 718-724 refereed: TRUE issn: 1996-0786 official_url: http://www.ajol.info/index.php/ajest/article/view/93914 related_url_url: http://scholar.google.co.in/scholar?as_q=%22The+economic+cost+of+air+pollution+in+Mangaung+metro+municipality%3A+A+case+study+in+South+Africa%22&as_epq=&as_oq=&as_eq=&as_occt=title&as_sauthors=&as_publication=&as_ylo=&as_yhi=&btnG=&hl=en&as_sdt=0%2C5 related_url_type: pub citation: Olawumi, I S and Matthews, N and Jordaan, H and Kundhlande, G (2013) The economic cost of air pollution in Mangaung metro municipality: A case study in South Africa.
