abstract: The goal of the International Crops Research
Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) is
to harness the power of science and technology
for development, food security, poverty alleviation
and environmental protection, targeted at poor
rural families in the semi-arid tropics of the world.
ICRISAT’s Inclusive Market-Oriented Development
(IMOD) approach focuses on helping the farming
poor in the drylands to move from subsistence to
market-oriented agriculture, thus improving their
