Registry No. Flavan-4-ol, 487-25-2; Starch, 9005-25-8. abstract: Chemical composition including tannin content, and grain and agronomic characters including ear length, head type, glume colour, and threshability are reported for 18 genotypes with brown pericarp, 15 of which had been reported to be bird resistant. Agronomic characters varied significantly among the genotypes. Variation in tannin content was much larger than variation in the other constituents. Several of the bird-resistant genotypes contained only small quantities of tannin, while the three genotypes not reported to be bird resistant contained tannins in amounts that might be expected to confer resistance. Detailed polyphenol analysis on ten selected genotypes indicated that flavan-4-ol content was relatively high and it is thought that this may contribute to bird resistance date: 1983 date_type: published publication: Journal of Agriculture and Food Chemistry volume: 31 number: 6 publisher: American Chemical Society pagerange: 1303-1307 refereed: TRUE issn: 0021-8561 official_url: http://dx.doi.org/10.1021/jf00120a039 related_url_url: http://scholar.google.co.in/scholar?as_q=Some+agronomic+and+biochemical+characters+of+brown+sorghums+and+their+possible+role+in+bird+resistance&num=10&btnG=Search+Scholar&as_epq=&as_oq=&as_eq=&as_occt=title&as_sauthors=&as_publication=&as_ylo=&as_yhi=&as_ related_url_type: author citation: Subramanian, V and Butler, L G and Jambunathan, R and Rao, K E P (1983) Some Agronomic and Biochemical Characters of Brown Sorghums and Their Possible Role in Bird Resistance.
