They were derived from the crosses Gaurav × (G130 × (ICC893 × Chafa)) (ICCV88506 and ICCV88510) and Pant G114 × (G130 × (ICC8923)) (ICCV88503), where ICC893 is of Russian (K1189) origin, G130 and Chafa are brown-seeded (desi) Indian cultivars, and Gaurav and Pant G114 are high-yielding cultivars adapted to Hisar, northern India. In trials at Hisar during 1988-89 and 1989-90, ICCV88503 and ICCV88506 showed greater cold tolerance by flowering 30-40 days earlier than the controls Gaurav and Pant G114 and setting pods at 21.2±0.7°C (day time) and 5.9±0.5°C (night time). ICCV88510 flowered 4-10 days earlier than the controls and set pods at 22.9±0.6°C and 6.8±2.6°C. In national trials, ICCV88510 yielded 1.1 and 2.7 t/ha (16 and 24% more than Pant G114) when sown in October-November (normal time) and December (late sowing), respectively. This cultivar was also resistance to wilt caused by Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. ciceri. The new cultivars had 7-10% higher harvest indices (41-42% vs. 33-35%), larger brown seeds and were taller than the controls.</mods:abstract><mods:classification authority="lcc">Chickpea</mods:classification><mods:originInfo><mods:dateIssued encoding="iso8061">1994</mods:dateIssued></mods:originInfo><mods:originInfo><mods:publisher>International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics</mods:publisher></mods:originInfo><mods:genre>Monograph</mods:genre></mets:xmlData></mets:mdWrap></mets:dmdSec><mets:amdSec ID="TMD_eprint_581"><mets:rightsMD ID="rights_eprint_581_mods"><mets:mdWrap MDTYPE="MODS"><mets:xmlData><mods:useAndReproduction>
