It belongs to the Virginia botanical group and produces mainly 2-seeded pods with a shelling turnover of 68-74% and a 100-seed weight of 61-64 g. The seeds are red and uniform in size and shape, and blanch easily, making them suitable for the red skin and confectionery trades. ICGV-SM83708 was released 1990 as CG7 in Malawi, where yields averaged 1.96-3.35 t/ha depending on locality, exceeding the local cultivars by 11-35%. It was also released in Zambia in 1991 as MGV4. date: 1994 publisher: International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics pages: 4 isbn: 9290662921 related_url_url: http://scholar.google.co.in/scholar?as_q=Groundnut+Elite+Germplasm+I+C+G+V+-+S+M+83708&num=10&btnG=Search+Scholar&as_epq=&as_oq=&as_eq=&as_occt=title&as_sauthors=&as_publication=&as_ylo=&as_yhi=&as_sdt=1.&as_sdtp=on&as_sdtf=&as_sdts=5&hl=en related_url_type: author citation: ICRISAT, - (1994) Groundnut Elite Germplasm I C G V - S M 83708.
