It has now gained global significance as a result of their deleterious effects on human and animal health and its importance in international trade. They are the most potent carcinogenic, mutagenic and immuno-suppresive agent. Aflatoxins are a group of closely related secondary metabolites of the fungi Aspergillus falvus and A. parasiticus.
