With the changing climate patterns and cropping systems, host, pathogen and favourable environment interactions are leading to diseases epidemics in a range of crops. Three essential components are required simultaneously for a disease to occur: a virulent pathogen, a susceptible host and favourable environment and the effect over time of the evolutionary forces on living populations leading to new disease epidemics often referred as “disease tetrahedran”. Even with minor deviations from the normal weather, the efficiency of applied inputs and food production is seriously impaired (Rotter et al., 1999). Agriculture production of rainfed regions, which constitute about 65% of the area under cultivation and account for about 40-45% of the total production in India, is expected to suffer severe as a result of climate change (Agarwal, 2003). date: 2011 date_type: published publisher: Indian Phytopathological Society place_of_pub: New Delhi pagerange: 128-131 pages: 4 refereed: TRUE isbn: 978-81-8465-959-7 book_title: Plant Pathology in India: Vision 2030 editors_name: Thind, T.S. editors_name: Jain, R.K. editors_name: Sharma, P. editors_name: Paul Khurana, S.M. editors_name: Aggarwal, R. editors_name: Sharma, R.K. editors_name: Singh, D. editors_name: Dubey, S.C. editors_name: Kumar, A. related_url_url: http://scholar.google.co.in/scholar?as_q=%22Climate+change+and+changing+scenario+of+plant+diseases+in+semi+arid+tropics%22&num=10&btnG=Search+Scholar&as_epq=&as_oq=&as_eq=&as_occt=title&as_sauthors=&as_publication=&as_ylo=&as_yhi=&as_sdt=1.&as_sdtp=on&as_ citation: Pande, S and Sharma, M (2011) Climate change and changing scenario of plant diseases in semi arid tropics.
