<dc:description>Released in 1990, the groundnut (Arachis hypogaea) variety ICGS1 was produced by bulk pedigree selection from a single plant selection made in a natural hybrid population involving the early maturing Virginia-type Indian variety Robut 33-1 (Kadiri 3) and an unknown parent. ICGS1 belongs to the Spanish botanical group and has decumbent 2-decumbent 3 growth habit. It matures in 112 days in the rainy season and in 120 days in the spring season. In All-India Coordinated trials in Zone I (Bihar, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh) during the rainy season 1981-84, mean pod yield of ICGS1 ranged from 2.05 to 2.47 t/ha across years, an average increase of 10.9, 17.2 and 36.2% over the control varieties J11, JL24 and AK12-24, respectively. In spring-season trials (Feb-June) at Ludhiana during 1982-85, ICGS1 produced an average pod yield of 2.35 t/ha, outyielding AK12-24 by 93%. ICGS1 has mainly 2-seeded, medium-sized, attractive pods; seeds are tan in colour with a 100-seed weight of 35 g and contain 51% oil and 21% protein. Oil quality is good, with an oleic : linoleic acid ratio of 1.44. ICGS has shown average recovery for pod yield from mid-season drought and field tolerance of bud necrosis disease.</dc:description>
