bibo:abstract "The present status of the control of biological agents causing\r\nyield losses in pearl millet is reviewed. The possibilities of controlling\r\ndiseases, insect pests, weeds and grain-eating birds by breeding cultivars\r\nwith durable resistance are discussed. In future breeding research\r\nin this crop, areas needing to be emphasized include: evaluation of the\r\nnature and inheritance of disease resistance; development of strategies\r\nto increase the durability of resistance to diseases; investigations into\r\nthe possibility of using complex multiple barriers to disease pathogens;\r\nadditional survey work and the development and use of effective\r\nscreening techniques for insect pests; evaluation of integrated control\r\nstrategies against insects; development and use of screening techniques\r\nto identify and develop cultivars resistant to witchweed; and investigation\r\nof cultural practices and breeding techniques to control shibra in\r\nSahelian Africa."^^xsd:string;
