N2  - Wild species of crop plants attract much attention as a valuable gene pool. A few successes in improving crop plants have resulted from crossing wild taxa with cultivated ones. Several other taxa are not crossable with their cultivated relatives and are therefore unavailable for sexual gene transfers. Methods for breaking these barriers to interspecific hybridization and hybrid production have been developed
