The interspecific transfer of genes has not always been simple and straightforward because of reproductive barriers and genetic incompatibility. This is true in the genus Arachis where a number of species have been identified as sources of resistance to fungal and viral pathogens as well as to insect pests (1 1. A few species have been crossed with A. hypogaea and their derivatives produced (1 - 41, but there are 'l; number of species which are not crossable with oundnut (5). This limits the scope for crop improvement, and the sS. tuation necessitates the adoption of existing methods, or develop- ment of new ones for the production of hybrids following these desirkle wide crosses. date: 1983 date_type: published publisher: Plenum Press pagerange: 365-370 pages: 502 refereed: TRUE isbn: 0306411601 book_title: Plant cell culture in crop improvement related_url_url: http://scholar.google.co.in/scholar?as_q=The+Use+Of+In+Vitro+Techniques+In+Groundnut+Improvement&num=10&btnG=Search+Scholar&as_epq=&as_oq=&as_eq=&as_occt=title&as_sauthors=&as_publication=&as_ylo=&as_yhi=&as_sdt=1.&as_sdtp=on&as_sdtf=&as_sdts=5&hl=en related_url_type: author citation: Sastri, D C and Moss, J P and Nalini, M (1983) The Use Of In Vitro Techniques In Groundnut Improvement.
