A few stands of long-duration, unimproved pigeonpeas are usually grown singly or as a hedge plant in home gardens or around sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum) fields in several provinces such as Kwazulu-Natal, Mpumalanga, and Northern and Eastern Cape Provinces in South Africa. The green peas are used as vegetable and the dry whole seeds for making soup mixed with or without meat. date: 2001 date_type: published publication: International Chickpea and Pigeonpea Newsletter number: 8 publisher: International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) pagerange: 37-38 refereed: TRUE related_url_url: http://scholar.google.co.in/scholar?hl=en&q=Evaluation+of+Short-%2C+Medium-%2C+and+Long-duration+ICRISAT+Pigeonpea+Cultivars+in+Mpumalanga%2C+South+Africa&btnG=Search&as_sdt=0%2C5&as_ylo=&as_vis=0 related_url_type: author citation: Saxena, K B and Mathews, C and Silim, S N (2001) Evaluation of Short-, Medium-, and Long-duration ICRISAT Pigeonpea Cultivars in Mpumalanga, South Africa.
