bibo:abstract "Thirty-eight wetland soils in four agro-ecological\r\nzones were evaluated for their suitability for rice\r\n(Oryza sativa L.) cultivation. The results indicated that\r\nclimatic characteristics are near optimum. Currently,\r\nby non-parametric method, most (≥ 97%) of the\r\npedons were found to be marginally suitable (S3).\r\nWith the parametric method about 3% were highly\r\nsuitable (S1), 74% marginally suitable (S3) and 23%\r\nnot suitable (NS). Potentially by non-parametric\r\nmethod, 18% were of high (S1) and moderate (S2)\r\nsuitabilities respectively, 58% were marginally suitable\r\n(S3) and 6% not suitable (NS). With parametric\r\nmethod, 24% were highly suitable (S1), 45 and 31%\r\nwere of moderate (S2) and marginal (S3) suitabilities.\r\nThe major limitations to rice cultivation on these soils\r\nare low CEC, organic carbon, exchangeable cations\r\nand available P, which may predispose rice plants to\r\nexcessive Fe2+ uptake visually expressed as «bronzing\r\n» or «yellowing» symptoms. In this and similar\r\nenvironments in the region, good soil management is\r\nrequired before substantial improvement in rice production\r\ncan be achieved."^^xsd:string;
