New data in aflatoxin research reveals the extent to which this is true. Aflatoxin, a potent poison that contaminates groundnut and other crops, is very common but difficult to detect. A sample survey by ICRISAT researchers in Andhra Pradesh examined the extent of aflatoxin contamination in groundnuts, chilies and various spices (ginger, black pepper, turmeric and coriander). The results revealed that a frighteningly large number of groundnut byproducts like chikkies (peanut crunch candy) were contaminated. date: 2002 publisher: International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics place_of_pub: Patancheru, Hyderabad pages: 61 institution: International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics related_url_url: http://scholar.google.co.in/scholar?as_q=Research+for+Impact+Annual+Report+2002&num=10&btnG=Search+Scholar&as_epq=&as_oq=&as_eq=&as_occt=title&as_sauthors=&as_publication=&as_ylo=&as_yhi=&as_sdt=1.&as_sdtp=on&as_sdtf=&as_sdts=5&hl=en related_url_type: author citation: ICRISAT, - (2002) ICRISAT Annual Report 2002 'Research for Impact'.
