There was significant variation among genotypes for grain fresh and dry weights and moisture contents at all sampling times, and at 40 days after anthesis percentage water uptake ranged from 3 to 37%. Variation in electrical conductivity of grain leachates was greater than for water uptake. Some genotypes could germinate only 10-15 days after anthesis while others would only germinate after 30-35 days.
