TY - JOUR N2 - This review provides an update about biotechnology research for the genetic enhancement of the most important crops grown by farmers in the semi-arid tropics. Advances in biotechnology applications to develop new crop cultivars with improved yield, drought tolerance, and pest resistance are also given in this article. This review also discusses examples of both national private and public sector in promoting new crop cultivars ensuing from applications of genetic research.
