Two to three hoeings are generally given to check C. album but increasing labour costs and scarcity of farm labour make the manual weeding difficult. Usage of herbicides appears to be a logical solution. Pre‐emergence applications of pendimethalin or ametryn alone at 1.5 kg ai ha−1 or one handweeding at 35–40 days after seeding following either 1 kg ai ha−1 of pendimethalin, ametryn or fluchloralin or metribuzin at 0.3 kg ai ha−1 applied pre‐emergence gave effective control of C. album and seed yields similar to clean‐weeded chickpeas. There was an 84% reduction in seed yield of chickpea without weeding. date: 1992 date_type: published publication: International Journal of Pest Management volume: 38 number: 4 publisher: Taylor & Francis pagerange: 398-399 refereed: TRUE issn: 0967-0874 official_url: http://dx.doi.org/10.1080/09670879209371735 related_url_url: http://scholar.google.co.in/scholar?hl=en&q=allintitle%3A+Promising+herbicides+for+weed+control+in+chickpea&btnG=Search&as_sdt=0%2C5&as_ylo=&as_vis=0 related_url_type: author citation: Ramakrishna, A and Rupela, O P and Reddy, S L N and Sivaramakrishna, C (1992) Promising herbicides for weed control in chickpea.
