The objective of the study was to evaluate the performance of different cropping systems and identify the most profitable systems for shallow black soils. The cropping systems included in the evaluation were four sole crops (sorghum, pearl millet, groundnut and pigeonpea), four intercrops (sorghum/pigeonpea, pearl millet/pigeonpea, groundnutl pigeonpea, and pearl millet/groundnut), three sequential systems (mung followed by setaria, safflower or early pigeonpea cv. lCPLa7) and a ratoon system with a short duration pigeonpea. The study was conducted in a randomized block design having three replications in fairly large plots (6.0X20 m). Crops were fertilized at a moderate level,a uniform dose of 100 kg ha- l of diammonium phosphate as basal to all systems and 42 kg ha-l of nitrogen as top dress later only to cereals. Most of the operations except harvest and threshing were carried out by an animal-drawn wheeled-tool carrier date: 1985 date_type: submitted pages: 107 institution: Andhra Pradesh Agricultural University department: Department of Agronomy thesis_type: masters related_url_url: http://scholar.google.co.in/scholar?as_q=Evaluation+Of+Different+Cropping+Systems+On+Shallow+Black+Soils+in+Semi-Arid+India&num=10&btnG=Search+Scholar&as_epq=&as_oq=&as_eq=&as_occt=title&as_sauthors=&as_publication=&as_ylo=&as_yhi=&as_sdt=1.&as_sdtp=on&as related_url_type: author citation: Abikar, A M (1985) Evaluation of different cropping systems on shallow black soils in Semi-Arid India.
