bibo:abstract "In order to study the effect of interspecies competition and test the plant type concept, two experiments were conducted over two years during Kharif 1983 and 1984\r\nunder auspices of the All India Co-ordinated Sorghum\r\nImprovement Project. In experiment I, twenty genotypes of\r\nsorghum differing in canopy structure and genetic background\r\nincluding released and prerelease varieties, hybrids and\r\nsome of the parental lines were grown in intercropping with\r\na pigeonpea variety, HY 8 as well as solecropping. The\r\nintercropping represents inter-species competition while\r\nsole cropping represents intra-species competition. The\r\ncompetition effects due to sorghum, due to pigeonpea and due\r\nto sorghum x pigeonpea interaction were studied in second\r\nexperiment by growing four sorghum hybrids and four different pigeonpea varieties in all possible combinations.\r\nExperiments were laid out in RBD with three replications.\r\nDevelopmental characters were recorded at three stages of\r\ngrowth and yield characters at maturity\r\n"^^xsd:string;
