Watershed\r\nmanagement is now an accepted strategy for development of rainfed\r\nagriculture in these areas. New science tools like remote sensing,\r\ngeographical information systems (GIS), water balance, simulation\r\nmodeling, information and communication technology (ICT) are\r\ncurrently being used very widely in irrigated and well-endowed areas.\r\nImportance of these tools in the SAT areas is now well understood and\r\nrecognized. Application of new science tools in rain-fed agriculture\r\nopens up new vistas for development through integrated watershed\r\nmanagement programs (IWMP). ICRISAT in partnership with national\r\nagricultural research systems and advanced research institutes in\r\nAsia has applied new science tools for enhancing the productivity of\r\nrain-fed systems in the SAT through science-led development."^^ .
